Thoughts from my desk…

thoughts-from-my-desk...

For a long time now, I’ve wanted a puppy. I grew up with dogs, as did my boyfriend, and we both love them. However, we were concerned it would be too much to deal with, and we were never too serious when we went looking. Until last week. Emmie Ryann (all dogs need middle names, right?) is our new puppy, and at just 6 months old, I’m already in love with her.

Growing up, while I did love my dogs, I was never responsible for them. I did a heck of a good job playing with them, but my mom fed them, dealt with their bathroom breaks, and took them to the vet. Of course, right before Matthew and I went to pick her up and bring her home, we both said ‘is this the right decision?’ and I had a mini panic attack in the car when we realized we were 2 minutes away from where we were getting her and then our lives would be forever changed. Ok, slightly dramatic I know, but true nonetheless.

When you’ve made a decision or are put in a situation that may be new to you, you’re going to deal. It may be tough, but you will survive and figure it out. We both wanted this puppy so badly, but we also knew with that puppy came a lot of work and more responsibility. We have figured it out, though. Yes, she’s had accidents and no, she’s not perfect (although, we like to think she is close to!), but we have handled it just fine, and we will continue to do so. I have realized you shouldn’t avoid doing something out of fear for what might happen. Life is short, and in the end, you will figure it out, and it will be ok. I couldn’t be happier with Emmie, and I’m so glad we took the plunge to get her.

I’m so jealous you got a puppy! My roommates are seriously considering getting one (we’ve even been talking to breeders and shelters!) but we’re just trying to iron out the logistics. Like you said, they’re a lot of work!

Ah that’s so exciting! We had a dog growing up, and she just passed 2 years ago. It’s so much work (and a lot of money) and it’s hard when my boyfriend and I both work all day. If the situation fits, I think it’s great idea and I’m so excited!

Congrats on your new puppy! I keep having the same thought, I’d love a puppy but I’m not sure I’m up for all of the responsibility.

  10. I am in “needing a puppy bad” zone right now. My boyfriend isn’t convinced that we should get one yet (eventually just not yet) so for now we’re waiting. But oh man I cannot wait to take care of one and give it all the damned love I have in my heart. So excited for you! You’ll totally keep figuring it out and learning together, which is seriously the best part.

Arturo just got me a fish as a surprise and the amount of attention that little beta fish gets is seriously over the top. At the same time, I think it’s already teaching me about caring for others and considering others in my daily routine, more.
