An Interview with Beth Delozier-Hayes of Manor

The-Interview-Series_Beth

Part of me feels like this installment of ‘The Interview Series’ needs no introduction because my guess is that the majority of you know about the fabulous tastemaker, Beth Delozier-Hayes and her insanely well curated online shop, Manor. HOWEVER, for those who might have been living under a rock this past year, let me introduce you.

Beth is an extremely talented interior designer who has had a love for making people’s homes oh so pretty for quite a while now. After years of decorating, she decided to start a shop of her own which would house all pretty little things. Enter: Manor.

Manor’s tagline is ‘simply smashing home decor’ because that’s quite literally what it is. The site is full of the greatest trinkets, decor pieces, lighting, furniture, gifts, and so much more (you can find my book on the site, too! #shamelessplug). It’s one of those sites you’ll start perusing and before you know it, you’ve missed your 2pm meeting because you’ve been online browsing (and shopping) for over an hour.

Beth is not only talented, stylish, and a huge success, but she’s also super sweet and TOTALLY hilarious. I’m thrilled to have her on FPTP today, so let’s get into the interview, shall we?

FPTP: When and why did you start Manor?

Beth: Manor was launched just over a year ago, and started as an idea from a few long distance friends who I was regularly assisting with furniture and decor for their homes. One told me it would be so much easier if all of my favorite pieces were just shoppable on one website. I thought the idea was brilliant, and a few years later Manor was born.

FPTP: What are your 3 favorite items currently on the site?

Beth: Manor Stir Sticks!! These are just in!! We worked with California Lustre to design our very own line of acrylic stir sticks just in time to add sparkle to your holiday bar carts. There is a geometric luxury line (featuring our logo), and a rustic chic line of beautiful antlers and holiday magic.

Urbia Furniture: We just added a line of gorgeous pieces from Urbia Furniture. It’s a combination of raw edged free form root consoles, and ultra sleek and modern sideboards. They are just an uber cool furniture company.

Manor’s Smashing Surprise box: So, this is crazy exciting. This week we are launching “Manor’s Smashing Surprise Box.” It is a “home decor to your door” subscription box. We ask you a few questions about the recipient, and then we customize a box of decor just for them. We’re also offering a “dude” box for the holidays.

FPTP: What are the current trends you’re seeing in home decor and design?

Beth: Everything furry – faux fur throws, mongolian wool pillows, sheepskin rugs and throws.  Though this trend is nothing new, it always gets kicked up a notch during the holidays.

Blue – blue walls, blue cabinets, artwork, rugs – covering a room in a beautiful dark shade of blue is huge right now.

Agate artwork – agate and natural stones are not going away any time soon. My favorite recent adaptation are HUGE paintings of agate slices.

FPTP: What is your favorite home decor/design trend at the moment?

Beth: Brushed brass hardware – Whether it’s used in the kitchen, bathroom, or elsewhere, brushed brass is warm, and glam without being ostentatious. At first I thought it was a trend that would quickly die out, but I’m now realizing that this beautiful classic may stick around for decades to come:)

FPTP: What are you buying for your son for Christmas?

Beth: Lawson is so easy; he loves everything.  Santa will likely be bringing him a tricycle, and a tee ball tee. We will likely give him something artsy; boyfriend LOVES to color and paint.

FPTP: Hubby?

Beth: Everyone ghasps when I tell them this, but Houston and I don’t usually exchange gifts. We always find some upgrades to the house that would make us both happy (a new flat screen is arriving today, new hardwoods later this month) and give that as our gift to each other. Neither of us really needs stuff, but boy does our house always need some kind of work:)

FPTP: Best friend?

Beth: My besties are all getting either White Whale Drink Mixers, or one of our pretty new trays to catch their baubles.

FPTP: What are the biggest challenges you face running your own company?

Beth: Obviously wearing most the hats is always a challenge, and inevitably something goes to the wayside. For me, it’s usually accounting (I need a guy).

FPTP: Biggest rewards?

Beth: Flexibility in schedule. I love that I can take a morning off to take my son to the zoo, or that we can have a long weekend at the beach without me having to run it by somebody else!

FPTP: Where do you find inspiration?

Beth: Travel. Doesn’t have to be anything exotic. It can just be as simple as a quick weekend trip, or even eating at new restaurant a few towns over. Anything that pulls you out of your day to day routine and makes you look at the world differently, will always bring fresh inspiration.

FPTP: What are your favorite Instagram accounts to follow?

Beth: So I’m biased, because they are both friends, but @sugarandcloth always inspires me to create something sparkly and beautiful out of nothing, and @dallasshaw is my go to for fashion inspiration, and makes me yearn for a city that actually has seasons. She just posted a pom pom hat that I am dying for, but I’d get to wear maybe once a year in Htown:)

FPTP: When you’re not working on all things Manor, what are you doing?

Beth: Probably watching movies:) The way I decompress and take my mind off of my to-do list is to get lost in a film.

Thanks, Beth! LOVED having you on FPTP.

Be sure to check out Manor and follow along on Instagram (their feed is one of my all time FAVORITES).
