An Interview with Artist Robyn Blair

If you haven’t heard of Robyn Blair (aka @byrobynblair) then you’ve most definitely been living under a rock. It’s ok, though, because I’m going to give you the scoop.

She has blown up in the last several months, and I’m 100% here for it! Robyn Blair is an artist who creates candy art! Yep, that’s right – candy art!! What started as creating herself something for fun turned into a massive business. In a nutshell, Robyn takes candy (think Pop Rocks and Starburst and Reese’s and literally every other candy you can think of) and arranges it in the most gorgeous way within a plexiglass frame. On top of the plexiglass she includes a fun and cheeky saying to bring it all together.

And more recently she launched her line of candy dishes, which I’m obsessed with, and I want them all. No, really. I want them all. They are so damn cute and perfect to be filled with or without candy.

Bottom line, this girl is on fire (yup, like the Alicia Keys song) and you need to start following her if you aren’t already.

Now keep on reading for a fun little interview I did with Robyn below…

When did you launch your company by robynblair and what inspired you to do so?

March 2018. I made a piece of art for myself with no intention of starting a business.

When my closest friends and family saw, they asked if I could make a piece for them, too. I posted a collection on Instagram (@byrobynblair) and everything took off from there!

Have you always been interested in being an artist or when did you decide this is what you were meant to do?

I’ve always loved art and always enjoyed making things. I think my “aha moment” was when I saw people react the same way I did to my pieces. I still pinch myself when people express how happy my art makes them.

What was the inspiration behind the candy?! It’s genius and delicious and pure perfection – tell us how that came to be!

I created the original (and most requested) by robynblair piece because I wanted it for myself! I love candy and it makes me happy every time I look at it. I wanted that feeling in my home and had the idea to put it on my wall, a permanent ode to one of my favorite things!

What is your favorite part about your job?

Getting photos of my pieces from clients and hearing how much they love what they got.

What does a day in your life look like?

Always different!  Meetings. Working with candy arrangement and placing. Shopping for candy, coming up with new ideas. Photo shoots. Finally taking a moment to catch up on emails!

What is your favorite piece of art you’ve ever created?

My original – Dubble Bubble bubble gum with hot pink writing.

What has been your biggest ‘pinch me moment’ of your career, thus far?

Working with Harry Winston! They reached out to me to make them pieces for their stores to celebrate and complement the launch of their colored diamond collection called “Candy.”

You recently launched candy dishes (and I’m fully obsessed!!) and you are currently partnering with Name Glo – you’re BUSY! Can you tell us what’s next for by robynblair? Anything you can share?

Thank you! I’ve had so much fun with the candy dishes and can’t stop making new ones. They’ve sold out every time new ones go up on my site!

Name glo and I launched our #lightandsweet collab together in the summer of 2018. We partnered with art star in March of 2019 to sell our collection exclusively 🙂

Stay tuned for what’s next… I can’t handle my excitement, but I’m going to try, as a picture tells a thousand words and I want to be able to show it!

What motto / quote do you always try to live by?

Life is 5% what happens and 95% how you react to it.

Favorite candy ever?

Sour belts!
