Life Lately

IMG_0745Hi guys! It’s me, Julie. Remember me? Understandably so if you don’t because I’ve basically stopped blogging, it seems, for the past few months.

Why though?

Good question.

Let me fill you in on life as of late, if you’re at all interested. If not, I totally get that, and move right along.

SO where the eff have I been? Well, I’ve been around, but not in these parts. Because work has been all sorts of busy and it’s basically taken up all the creative capacity in my brain! So, at the end of the day, I, plain and simple, have no inspiration to blog or even any words left in my head to write down (or in this case, type out).

I get a lot of questions about what exactly I do. So I figure this is a good time to answer. I understand why it might be confusing. Because I don’t have a “typical” job, I guess you could say.

Currently, my main job is as the COO and Senior Editor over at CarrieColbert.com. What that means is I basically make shit happen over at CC headquarters. Haha but really, I handle day to day operations, write a lot, edit people’s work, coordinate photo shoots and sponsored content, so forth and so on and so forth and so on and on. And you guys, I fucking love my job. Excuse my language, but it was necessary.IMG_0367

Ya know, I’m turning 32 next month, and ever since I graduated from college in 2008 I’ve had jobs. And the thing is I actually haven’t loved a job as much as my current one, and I haven’t felt as excited about a job or as proud and fulfilled as I do with this one. It’s a really good feeling, I have to say.

That’s not to say I didn’t like my other jobs because I absolutely did. This one just fits. And it fits well. They say (alert: cheesy comment ahead) if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. Well, I can honestly say that is absolutely the case 100%.

If you’re feeling burnt out at work or like it’s not the right fit for you, MAKE A CHANGE. I know it might be a lot easier said than done, but I promise it’s possible. If your dream job doesn’t currently exist, make it exist. Reach out to brands and people and companies you’d love to work with, and charm their socks off and make them want to hire you even if they don’t currently have a position “available.” Everyone deserves to wake up every day excited about their work. Life is too short not to.

Ok I digress a bit.

So, CC.com is where I spend most of my time, especially because we just went through a major re brand, site re launch, and the launch of an e-commerce shop, Splendor Made. It’s been anything but quiet over there, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

IMG_0644Now, aside from CC, I still freelance write for a couple people / websites that I love and I have a few clients who I write and manage blogs for, along with managing their social media with Mishelle over at CKO Digital

Sooo, I guess you can kind of see why I haven’t been blogging as much. Though, don’t think I don’t miss it. Because I really do!

In all honesty, as I’ve mentioned before, my blog has never been my main source of income. In fact, it makes me very little to no money at all. However, I don’t think I’ll ever give it up because I love it. Writing makes me happy and everyone should do the things that make them happy, right?

And speaking of writing, I’m still working on my book!!! My goal was to be done with it by year’s end. Well, I’m not sure it’ll be 100% complete by then, but I think it’ll be in a good place to then start pitching literary agents. Hey, are you a literary agent? Do you know one? If so, hit me up. I’m only sort of kidding 😉

Alright, well there ya have it! For those who read this entire post and didn’t zonk out while doing so, thank you. I’m giving you an air hug as we speak. I appreciate you for following along even though there hasn’t been as much to follow these days. Though, I’m always over on Instagram. Not as much posting on my feed, but on stories a lot. So, follow along IMG_0749(@julielauren14)!

I hope you’ve had the most incredible holiday season filled with quality time spent with loved ones, endless laughter, an abundance of love, and multiple glasses of wine. How the hell is it almost 2018?!!! Cannot deal.

Happy everything!!

xo Julie
