Cheers to 31

CHEERS-TO-31

My 31st birthday was on Saturday, and it was a really, really great day.

The day began at Joy Yoga (my favorite yoga studio in Houston) with a bunch of my friends. I wanted to somehow incorporate giving back with this birthday so I decided I wanted to give back to one of my favorite organizations (Covenant House Texas) and I wanted to do so through yoga with my girlfriends. Joy Yoga was kind enough to allow us to use one of their studios at the Voss location, and my sweet friend/life coach/favorite yoga instructor Rachel Tenenbaum led 24 of us through a really special (and fun!) practice. It was a mix of girls who had never done yoga before, hadn’t done yoga in years, had done yoga but hadn’t really liked it, and some who do it all the time. Turns out, everyone seemed to love it! In lieu of gifts, I asked those who would like, to please donate to CHT, and 100% of the donations are being delivered to CHT this week. I’m SO grateful for all the donations, and I know CHT will be, as well.

And following the yoga class, we had mimosas and muffins and laughed and talked. It was perfect. You can see a little toast in one of the videos below!

After yoga/mimosas/muffins, Matthew and I went to lunch and then a couple of our friends spontaneously came over for some drinks later in the day. And the day ended with a delicious dinner at one of my favorite Italian spots. Truth be told, I was sleeping by 10pm I think. #wildat31

All in all, it was exactly what I wanted for my birthday. I know I’ve said it before on this blog – I used to be SUCH a birthday person. I would make QUITE the stink about it, but as the years went on, I just didn’t think as much about it. Of course, I still enjoy the day, love hearing from so many friends and relatives, but let’s just say – I’m not as into partying my little heart out circa my 25th, for example, and I kind of don’t love the attention anymore (but, man, did I used to LIVE for it!! ha!). It’s funny how much life changes, and it’s so important to enjoy every phase of it because wherever you are now is exactly where you’re supposed to be, so do it with all you’ve got.

Sadly, I did not take many pictures from the yoga ‘party,’ but I was actually happy about that – as much as I would love pictures to look at, I’m glad I wasn’t busy taking photos on my phone, so I could really ENJOY the day and BE in the moment. The few photos (and a couple videos) I do have are below, though, so take a look if you’d like!

Thank you SO much to those who came out to yoga, those who donated, and for all the sweet wishes. You know how to make a girl smile. Cheers to 31, guys!

P.S. If you’re interested in donating to Covenant House Texas, you can do so here

The set up for post yoga. That empty spot behind the muffins was filled with lots of OJ and Champagne/Prosecco, in case you were wondering!

Cute napkin alert! And the blanket/tablecloth was Joy Yoga’s, and while it’s not my personal style, I think it worked perfectly with the theme/set up.
