Why Unplanned Days Are Some of the Best Days

Unplanned Days

Hi guys! In being totally honest, I had a different post planned for today, but as I was writing it, I realized I didn’t have as much to say on the topic as I thought, and writer’s block struck. However, in looking back at my weekend (which you might have seen if you follow along on Snapchat, and if you don’t you should!), I wanted to share some thoughts with you that stemmed from my Saturday.

You know those days that are totally random, unplanned, and a bit spontaneous? I had one of those this past Saturday, and it was one of my very favorite days. Truly the best!

In a life of constant plans, schedules, to do lists, emails, and chaos, it can be nice to just go with the flow. Of course, it’s not always possible to go with the flow due to obligations and deadlines, but the times that you can just let things happen, those are the times to hang onto. And let them unfold in whichever way they want.

I definitely wouldn’t call myself ‘Type A,’ but I do like to stay organized and plan things out, when necessary, but I thrive on going with the flow, too.

In those unplanned moments, you can have unexpected conversations, meet new people, form even deeper connections, and the element of surprise is certainly apparent.

Especially if you’re one who always, always sticks to a schedule, it can be fun to switch things up a bit. See where the day takes you. Have no expectations and just enjoy each and every moment.

So, what about you? Do you ever just go with the flow and see where life and the day takes you? I want to hear in the comments below. Have the best day! xo Julie

I Simply Don’t Know

I’m just going to come out and say it: I don’t know if I want kids.

I briefly mentioned this in a post a while back when talking about ‘the norm,’ but I wanted to dive in a little deeper. I think it’s top of mind because literally everyone around me is talking babies, getting pregnant, or having babies. Now, don’t get me wrong – I love babies and kids…absolutely LOVE. Being an aunt is truly my favorite thing. However, I just don’t know if I want kids of my own. I simply don’t know.

Yoga Moves You Can Do Anywhere to Help With Stress and Anxiety

You don’t have to be a ‘yogi’ to realize the benefits the practice of yoga can bring to your everyday life. If you’ve done yoga before, you more than likely know that ‘yogi high’ you feel after a practice. It’s a feeling I wish could be bottled up for all to experience. And the good news is you can bring yoga into your home whenever you like.

My friend and life coach, Rachel Tenenbaum, who you’ve seen on the blog before (she also led my birthday yoga class!), is here today to talk about easy yoga moves you can do anywhere, with no fancy equipment, that help with stress and anxiety.

Whether or not you practice yoga, and whether or not you are a beginner or extremely advanced, these poses anyone can do, anywhere. So, keep on reading to find out what they are. Take it away, Rach!

Do You Have Any Shitty Habits? Let’s Break Those.

By definition, a habit is ‘a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.’ The key part is ‘hard to give up’ because it’s true…you can’t just flick a switch, and your habit of biting your nails since you were 8 years old is now gone.

The funny thing about habits (err – maybe not funny, per se) is that oftentimes we do them because we find them comforting. They help alleviate anxiety, they make us feel at ease, and quite simply, they become part of our daily routine. And while not all habits are bad (i.e. meditating every morning as soon as you wake up), many times they are. And it can be hard as hell to break them.

Let’s Talk Aphrodisiacs

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovers! If I’m being totally honest, I’m not the biggest Valentine’s Day person. Yes, I LOVE love and am far from a cynic, but it’s simply just never been my thing. However, whether you like the holiday or not, I will say, it IS a good reminder to spread the love and to show those loved ones in your life just how much you care. And it’s also a good excuse to buy those Dove chocolate hearts which I’ve been eating far too many of recently.

Another thing Valentine’s Day can be good for is your sex life! Yep, there I said it. It’s a gentle reminder to keep the passion alive in whatever relationship you’re currently in. Now, when it comes to sexy time, you have to be in the mood, right? And what if you’re not in the mood? Bummer for your partner.

Enter: aphrodisiacs.

Lessons Learned from Gossip Girl

For the past many weeks I’ve been re watching every episode from every season of Gossip Girl. I think I’ve done this once before, but it’s definitely been a while. And, really, this show is simply the best. From the relationships to the fights to the drama to the love, it’s a good one, and I’m still debating whether I like Chuck or Nate better. Chuck has that sexy bad guy vibe while Nate is, well, perfect.

However, we’re not here today to talk about Nate and Chuck because Dorota is really the shining star of the series, if we’re being honest; we’re here to talk about lessons learned from this ever so fabulous show. One might not think there are actually lessons to be learned from a ‘silly’ show like this one. Oh, but you’re wrong, my friends. There are plenty. So, let’s get into it. xoxo, Julie Lauren (get it?)

The other day an old friend said something to me that really resonated.

The cards might be stacked against me, but at the end of the day I’m hitting Blackjack.

I seriously fucking love that quote.

It encompasses a few different things that I feel very strongly about.

Exuberant Joy and Why We All Deserve It

This past weekend, I was out for lunch with my friend and we got on the topic of happiness and exuberant joy.

I truly feel we all deserve absolute happiness and exuberant joy in our lives, no matter what. I don’t care who you are or where you come from, you deserve it, and you should never let anyone tell you otherwise.

Avoidance and Why It’s Not a Good Thing

We all know life is a combination of ups and downs, and that’s what makes it exciting (and certainly never dull!). And with those downs might come situations that really, well,  just kind of suck. While the easiest thing to do would be to simply avoid the situation all together, maybe ‘push it under the rug,’ and just kind of move on, that’s not necessarily the best thing to do.

On Change

It’s not often I take on contributors or put up guest posts. In fact, I think I have maybe once in the over 5 years I’ve had this blog. However, when I read Beth’s post, I knew it was something I wanted to share with my readers. Beth Levine is a corporate gal by day, who also owns her own yoga accessories company, and a freelance lifestyle writer by night (she contributes to Houstonia, Local Magazine, and My Red Glasses). She most recently went through a very big (and rather difficult) life change. However, she hasn’t let it define her. In fact, she pushed through, and she truly is turning her ‘mess into her message.’ The thing with change is that it can be a great thing or it can be a horrible thing, depending on how you look at it. Keep on reading as Beth shares her own thoughts on change, as well as thoughts from others in her life. Take it away Beth!
