Best Laid Plans

You know when you have those plans that you’ve SO been looking forward to for weeks and then once it gets here, nothing actually goes according to that plan? That happened this past weekend.

Friday around lunchtime I was supposed to drive up to Market Street to meet my mom for lunch and shopping. Mother Nature was PMS-ing, though, because the weather up where my mom was coming from was AWFUL, and she was unable to come meet me. I was later supposed to drive up to my parents lake house and Matthew was going to meet me after work, but I couldn’t get there because of how badly it was storming. SO, I drove back to Houston. THEN when Matthew and I finally decided to give it a go and attempt to get up there, we were re routed no less than 6 times due to flooding, and FINALLY a couple hours later we made it.

Saturday Matthew had plans to go golfing with friends, but the original course he was playing on was flooded out. I had a bridal shower to go to and it took me 2 hours to get there due to road closures and traffic, so I was most definitely late. After golf/bridal shower, the plan was to go boating for the rest of the weekend with friends and family. Oh but wait, the lake was closed because it overflowed (did you even know that could happen?! It can!). THEN the lake finally opened yesterday, but the weather was not ideal the first half of the day, so we just said screw it and drove back home to Houston. LITERALLY nothing went according to plan.

HOWEVER, it was still SUCH a great weekend. Friday I shopped around in the rain at Market Street, and stumbled into Johnny Was (which I had never been in before), and while the day couldn’t have been more dreary, I don’t think I’ve ever been in a brighter, happier store. SO much color. SO cheerful. Couldn’t have picked a better spot to pop into! (Also popped into Madewell and got another plaid beauty, as evidenced here!)

Then when I drove back to Houston afterwards, my friend Rachel and I went with the boys to play golf. And by ‘play golf’ I mean Rachel and I drove around in the golf cart (Rachel drove, I sort of ‘directed’ but really just drank wine and Snapchatted), drank wine, while the boys played. This was before the monsoon came around the 9th hole. We were drenched. But SO fun. And when Matthew and I finally made it up to Conroe that night we met my parents for dinner and drinks at a fun ‘saloon’ style restaurant. The restaurant we were at had a wedding there that night because where the bride and groom were originally supposed to get married got flooded out at the last minute! Can you believe?! Nutty! Saturday, Matthew still ended up golfing, just at another course further away, and even though boating didn’t happen, we made the best of it with the few people that were up there with us and swam in the pool lots, drank far too much wine, grilled out, and relaxed.

I wasn’t lying when I said it’s the most bright, colorful, cheerful store!

Couldn’t resist purchasing these little bracelets.

While it certainly wasn’t the weekend we had PLANNED for, it ended up being even better. Mother Nature may have attempted to mess things up, but these are little things, guys, and when you put it all into perspective, it’s not so bad, folks. Not so bad AT ALL. Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend!
